Terms

Terms of service

Last updated November 3, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and 1000461518 Ontario Inc., which runs Bento Brain ("we", "us"). By creating an account or paying for Bento Brain, you agree to them. If something here is unclear, email hello@bentobrain.app and a real person will answer.

1. What Bento Brain is

Bento Brain is a daily set of short activities for children aged about 6 to 14 (a riddle, sudoku, math, a coding challenge, how everyday things are made, and more), meant to be done with a parent or another grown-up. A new bento opens every day at 6 am Eastern time. It's an app and a website for fun and curiosity; it isn't a school program, and we don't promise any particular learning result.

2. Your account

  • Grown-ups only. You must be an adult (18 or older, or the age of majority where you live) to create an account, pay, or add a second grown-up.
  • Kids are added by you. Children don't create accounts. You add each child with a first name or nickname and an age group, and you decide when and how they use Bento Brain.
  • Keep your sign-in to yourself. We sign you in with a code sent to your email. You're responsible for what happens in your account, and for any second grown-up you add to your family.
  • Be honest. Use a real email address you can receive mail at.

3. The free trial

New families get 7 free days, starting with the first bento played. No card is needed. The trial ends after those 7 bento days, or when you subscribe, whichever comes first. When it ends without a subscription, the bento stops until you subscribe.

4. Subscriptions

  • Plans. Monthly ($7.99) or yearly ($49.99), in Canadian dollars in Canada and US dollars in the United States, plus applicable sales tax. One subscription covers your whole family: every child and both grown-ups.
  • Starts right away. Your plan starts when you subscribe, and you're charged then.
  • Renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before any price increase takes effect for you, and you can cancel before it does.
  • Where you subscribed decides how you manage it:
    • On our website (bentobrain.app): payments are processed by Stripe. Change your card, switch plans or cancel any time in Bento Brain under Settings, Your plan, Manage subscription, or by emailing us.
    • In the iPhone app: the subscription is with Apple. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions. Apple's terms also apply.
    • In the Android app: the subscription is with Google Play. Manage or cancel it in the Play Store, under Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Google's terms also apply.
  • Cancelling. You keep Bento Brain until the end of the period you've already paid for. There are no cancellation fees.
  • If a payment fails, we keep your family's bento going for up to about 2 weeks while the payment is retried, so you have time to update your card.
  • One subscription per family. If two grown-ups in the same family both subscribe by mistake, tell us and we'll refund one (for app store purchases, we'll help you ask Apple or Google).

5. Refunds

  • Website purchases: if you're not happy, email us within 14 days of a charge (a new subscription or a renewal) and we'll refund it in full. After that, we generally don't refund partial periods, but we'll always look at a fair request.
  • App store purchases: refunds are decided by Apple or Google under their own policies. Ask them through reportaproblem.apple.com or the Play Store. We're happy to support your request.

6. Gifts

  • Buying a gift. Anyone can buy a gift of Bento Brain on our website for a family, by giving the parent's email address. A gift is a one-time payment for a fixed period (a year). It doesn't renew.
  • Delivery. We send the parent one email on the day you choose, with your name and message. We use the parent's email only for that.
  • Claiming. The gift starts when the parent signs in to Bento Brain with that email, or uses the link in the email. It's added after any time the family already has. Gifts don't expire before they're claimed.
  • Gift refunds. The buyer can get a full refund any time before the gift is claimed. Once claimed, it belongs to the family and isn't refundable.
  • Families who already pay keep their subscription unless they cancel it. To avoid paying for the same months twice, cancel the subscription and enjoy the gift first.

7. Founding families

Families who helped us test Bento Brain before launch may get Bento Brain free for a period we tell them about. That's a thank-you from us, not a subscription; it doesn't renew or turn into a paid plan unless the family subscribes.

8. Using Bento Brain

  • Use it for your family's personal, non-commercial enjoyment. Don't copy, resell or republish our puzzles, riddles, facts or designs, or try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service.
  • Our content is written with the help of AI and checked by a parent on our team before any child sees it. We work hard to keep it accurate and age-appropriate, but mistakes can happen. Tell us if you spot one.
  • All content, the name Bento Brain and the logo belong to us.

9. Privacy and children

How we handle your family's information is explained on our privacy page, which is part of these terms. In short: you own the account, we collect as little as possible about your kids, and there are no ads or tracking.

10. Changes and availability

We're a small team and we'll keep improving Bento Brain: activities, features and the app may change. We aim for a new bento every day but can't promise the service will never be interrupted. If something stops working for your family, tell us. If we ever close Bento Brain, we'll give at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of any website subscription or unclaimed gift.

11. Ending your account

You can delete your account any time in the app (Family, then Settings, then Delete my account), which deletes your family's information as described on the privacy page. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription by itself: cancel it under Your plan (website subscriptions) or with Apple or Google too. We may close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why when we can.

12. Responsibility

We provide Bento Brain "as is". As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes (for example to prices or how renewals work), we'll email you at least 30 days before they apply to you.

14. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you live in another province or country, you keep any consumer protections its laws give you.
